The Crystal Ball: November

It’s been over my customary week per post mark that I made a feeble attempt to adhere to. It’s not like I don’t have stuff to write about, but life has a nasty way of slipping in something you didn’t expect, and throwing off your game. Oh, and not having power for awhile didn’t really help matters, either. I’m just glad I wasn’t working on something important when the whole neighborhood went black.

Oh well, there’s no use crying over spilled potion, is there? There’s lots of cool stuff to look forward to in the coming months!

Starting off the line of exciting things upcoming is from Fantasy Flight Games! Oh, Fantasy Flight Games, you always know what this wizard wants, don’t you? From the “Shut up and take my money” department, its: Read the rest of this entry

Fantasy Flight Games: Breathing new life into Collectible Card Games

I got a few emails over the past week regarding my thoughts on  Fantasy Flight Games. I gave them quite a railing in my last blog post about their GenCon presence, mostly about their handling of the distribution of their newest game Netrunner. I’ve been asked if I hate them. Any FFG employees reading it might have thought the same.

OF COURSE I DON’T! “Hating them” couldn’t be further from the truth! As a matter of fact, Fantasy Flight Games is at the top of my list for best game company for non-RPG tabletop games! You might even call me a FFG fanboy.

GenCon Sell-outs

Well, folks, GenCon has come and gone. Unfortunately, this trend also extended to most of it’s big releases this year. Many many people couldn’t get ahold of more than a few titles this year, and it wasn’t just sad…it was infuriating.
First of all, though, here’s my short list of the top titles that sold out FAR too quickly at GenCon: Read the rest of this entry

The GenCon 2012 Lineup

Well, folks, it’s that time again. GenCon 2012 is just a month away, and it’s high time a shopping list is made for your trip to the best four days in gaming! There’s some good stuff available this year, and I feel it to be my duty to help by listing off some highlights of games making their debut at Gencon this year. So, without further adieu, here’s the list I’ve dug up of what to look for on the vendor hall floor! Read the rest of this entry

Divination 101: Where the hell is it?

Unfogging the future of gaming is sometimes a trying experience. Some companies have a nasty habit of giving some big reveal about an AWESOME new game that’s sure to rock your socks at some gaming expo or convention; take your pick. They pull out their announcements and their fanfare, blitzing our brains with conceptual delights with colorful displays and candy-like boxes, hoping for us gamers to line up with the promises of giving them money. Then, of course, you’re hopelessly hooked, checking back on the designing company’s website day after day waiting for news that you’re frankly never going to see. Read the rest of this entry
